City of Melville South West Neighbourhood
30 Jul 09
Hello once again
At the SW neighbourhood champions workshop on Monday 4 May the theme of safety and security was explored, particularly in relation to the opportunity to gather information about safety and security initiatives and to share this information across local groups and with residents. We decided that it was time to give you an update and share some exciting news!
The City of Melville has now finalised its Safer Melville 2008-2012 Community Safety and Crime Prevention Plan which will be endorsed by the Safer Melville Advisory Committee in July. Safer Melville will be launched to the community in August and we will be inviting you, our community champions, to this launch - watch out for your invitation later in the year!
In the mean time, the City and the Office of Crime Prevention have developed a community resource that contains valuable safety and crime prevention information on a number of topics including personal safety, home security and car security. The resource is available online from the City's website, or in hard copy from the Civic Centre, your local library, or your local community centre. We are happy to provide these booklets for distribution by community groups, if you would like to contact us and tell us how many you require.
The City has also updated its website to include a Safer Melville section with safety and crime prevention information. The website can be accessed from www.melvillecity.com.au/safermelville.
Other initiatives which will be available to the community in the near future include a Safer Melville News section on the website, and a link to this news section through the enews electronic newsletter. If you have not done so already, I would encourage you all to subscribe to this newsletter, by visiting our website at http://www.melvillecity.com.au/. Enews contains up to date information about activities, events and Council news, and the Safer Melville section will contain information on current community safety and crime prevention issues as well as reports from the Officers in Charge at the Palmyra and Murdoch Police Stations.
So there has been a lot going on!! We hope that these initiatives will go a long way to improve our knowledge about safety and security, and contribute to making SW neighbourhood a better place.
Please feel free to contact either Dee or myself if you would like further information or to discuss opportunities in your neighbourhood. We would be happy to support community safety BBQs or community events that encourage neighbours to get to know one another. We are always happy to provide information and support, and to share ideas. We will be contacting some of you about other specific neighbourhood opportunities as time goes by.
Thank you once again for your interest in SW neighbourhood.
