The Injury Control Council of WA has designated 13-19 September as Stay on Your Feet Week.
13 Sep 2009 - 19 Sep 2009
Dear Seniors in Kardinya Tennis Club,
The Injury Control Council of WA has designated 13-19 September as Stay on Your Feet Week. Community organisations across WA are sponsoring activities to inform the citizenry, especially seniors, of the risks of falls and the means to minimise those risks. Remaining active in life by engaging in a low impact sport such as tennis helps seniors to reduce the likelihood of falling and the recovery time if a fall occurs.
The Kardinya Tennis Club is participating in this endeavour with Improving Balance and Nutrition for Active Seniors, on Friday, 18 September, from 11am - 2pm. We are inviting seniors from the surrounding communities and neighbouring tennis clubs. The schedule for this free 3 hour program is:
- 11 - Noon Tennis (Bring your equipment and try out our courts.)
- 12 - 12:30 Exercises to Improve Your Balance with Physiotherapist Michelle Bergeron.
- 12:30 - 1:30 Enjoy a healthy lunch (charge for beverages) and learn nutritional tips from a registered dietician.
- 1:30 - 2:00 Caring for Active Feet and Selecting Appropriate Footwear with Podiatrist Shannon Wittkuhn.
We hope you will support this activity by inviting any of your senior friends and coming for the day to help the club host this activity. If you would like to participate by preparing a healthy plate of food, please let me know as we are preparing certain nutritious dishes for the event. For catering purposes, we ask those planning to attend to RSVP by emailing kardinyatennisclub@hotmail.com or by phoning me on 9332-0262.
Warm regards,
Sue Toole
